Top 5 Tips on Job Applications

  1. Read the job description in detail highlighting each task that matches your experience, if you dont match the job description dont apply unless it states desirable skills/experience.
  2. Go onto the company website and find a contact number or email and send in a speculative CV about future or other opportunities. Hiring managers prefer this than what they feel can be time wasted with unsuitable applications - remember first impressions make lasting ones.
  3. Research the organisation on their website along with looking at any business updates online from them or business news/awards etc. Do not just click on the about us section, employers know this!
  4. Start to create your tailored cover letter detailing the sections you have highlighted on the job description for the hiring manager. Remember one job or task in one company can be different in another. When we review CVs as humans we can be very assumptive sometimes incorrectly - paint a picture, never assume a hiring manager knows what your roles have involved.
  5. Update your CV ensuring you have all the relevant key skills on that this role will involve and ensure your CV is accurate with spelling, format, size of font and employment history dates.
  6. Double check steps 1 to 4

Good luck!
